My Story
My passion for education began at University in the early 1990s and I still have a passion for learning and this is something that I like to convey and pass on to all my students – an enthusiasm for learning. After my career teaching in schools and colleges, I very much wanted to focus on a more personal approach to teaching and learning and so in 2006 I set up My121tutor.
What I love about my job is the sheer variety of students and parents that I meet and although the various curriculums don’t change all that much - every situation and student is different so although I might take approach A with one student I will take approach B with another – as I say I’m always learning too!
Over the years I have tutored hundreds of students at all levels and abilities and sometimes I bump into past students in the street and they are all grown up and they recognise me – say ‘hello’ and tell me what they have been doing. I feel very proud that I play a part in helping them on their journey and although I don’t change that much – they certainly do! When my daughter began to struggle a little with Maths in year 8, I decided to use Rowena again for some Maths tuition and she has worked with my daughter ever since. She has gone from strength to strength in Maths and it is now one of her favourite subjects and she is achieving at the very highest level. My daughter loves being able to go through past papers with Rowena and learning how to improve with her support. This is to the extent that my daughter is now considering taking Maths A-Level.
